PlainPension is an independent information service. It helps you understand UK pension rules and project outcomes — but it does not, and cannot, give you regulated financial advice. Please read this before acting on anything you find here.

Information, not advice

Everything on PlainPension — the calculator, the guides, the research, and the comparisons — is general information based on published UK pension rules. It is not financial, tax, investment, or pension advice, and it is not a personal recommendation. Pensions are a regulated area: advice on your specific circumstances can only be given by a firm authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). PlainPension is not authorised or regulated by the FCA.

Projections are illustrations, not forecasts

Calculator results are deterministic projections in today's money, based entirely on the inputs and assumptions you enter. They show what the official rules produce under those assumptions — they are not a prediction of what your pension will actually be worth. Investment returns are not guaranteed; real returns vary, inflation erodes value, tax rules change, and your circumstances will differ from any illustration. Do not treat a projected figure as a promise.

Accuracy and currency of figures

We take care to source every rate and rule from official UK references and to keep them current for the stated tax year. Even so, errors and delays can happen, and rules can change between updates. Always confirm a figure that matters against the official source — gov.uk, MoneyHelper, or your pension provider — before relying on it. If you spot something wrong, our corrections process explains how to tell us.

When to get regulated advice

Some pension decisions are high-stakes and time-sensitive, and several legally require regulated advice — for example, transferring a Defined Benefit (final-salary) pension worth more than £30,000. Speak to an FCA-regulated adviser, or use the free, impartial government Pension Wise service (for those aged 50 and over), before you transfer a pension, access your pot, buy an annuity, or make any large or irreversible contribution.
